MERCE & IAN - TYPE SYSTEM

NOTHING OUTSIDE THIS FILE NAMES A TYPEFACE. Every stylesheet asks for
   --font-display, --font-script, --font-text, --font-ui, --font-book,
--font-hand, --font-amp or --font-mono, so a change of face is a change of src: url() here and nowhere
else. That is how Bespoke Serif and Ibarra were swapped out for these
without touching a single rule that uses them.

A HARD REQUIREMENT, kept: no faces that are common defaults in
AI-generated design. No Playfair, Cormorant, Montserrat, Poppins, Lato,
Cinzel, Jost, and none of the template scripts either - Great Vibes,
Alex Brush, Allura, Sacramento, Tangerine, Dancing Script.

Passions Conflict is not one of those, so the rule holds as written.

Cormorant Garamond Light display - headings, venue names, and the italic
the dogs speak in. Chosen over Gambetta on 2026-09-24
because Gambetta set 11% WIDER on the long venue name
and read spaced-out; measured on "Archdiocesan Shrine
and Parish of St. Jude Thaddeus" at 31px, Gambetta was
                         698px against Cormorant's 618px. SIL OFL.

Cormorant is on the no-AI-fonts list below and is here as a deliberate
exception, asked for on 2026-09-24 after seeing it in place.
Passions Conflict script - the couple's names, and nothing else.
Switzer ui/text - everything that has to be read rather than admired.
EB Garamond book - the story's chapters, and nothing else. SIL OFL.

WHY THIS TEST MATTERS FOR ANY SCRIPT. Seventy-seven formal scripts were
checked against one question: does "Ian" read as "Ian"? Most fail. Their
capital I carries a large upper loop that readers take for a J, so the
groom's name comes out as Jan - true of Ephesis, Mrs Saint Delafield,
Italianno, Petit Formal Script, Imperial Script, Rochester, Niconne and
Meie Script, among others. Comparing each font's I against its own J does
NOT catch this, because the two are genuinely different shapes; the only
test that works is setting the name and reading it. Stalemate, Luxurious Script,
Estonia, Shalimar, Birthstone, Island Moments, Waterfall and Hurricane all
pass cleanly if this ever needs replacing.

/* ---- display: Cormorant Garamond Light, roman and a real italic ----

TWO WEIGHTS, USED DELIBERATELY. The 300 goes on the large display type,
which is where the old face read heavy and too wide; the 400 stays under the
small print, because Cormorant is a delicate design and its Light gets
fragile below about 18px. Both styles are the LATIN subset of the Light
family; Google serves one @font-face per subset per style, italics first, so
picking these by position in the stylesheet gets you a Cyrillic file or the
wrong style. Parse for `/* latin *\/` and the style you want.

The italic is a designed cut at a -10 degree angle, not a shear. That
matters more here than usual: the italic carries every line the dogs speak,
and Cormorant Upright, the other candidate, has no italic at all - what
looked good in the mock-up was the browser faking one. */
